Yogyakarta has some Mary Caves and one of them is Tritis pilgrimage cave located which in Gunung Kidul. The Tritis cave is very unique, natural caves, equipped with stalactites and stalagmites as well.
In this Tritis cave pilgrims can pray in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary. A statue of Maria praying and listen to the sound of screams of a bat and a trickle of water from the rocks.
To reach the location of Mary Tritis cave, the pilgrims have to walk down the street garden teak. In some places there are stations diorama containing the crucifixion of Christ. The pilgrims who cross roads will stop at the stations to pray. When entering the mouth of the cave, silence and peace was immediate.
Sigh of the wind rubbing with teak leaves create a beautiful and peaceful symphony. The cave is indeed suitable for the devotion and contemplation. In Tritis cave, there are a lot of ornaments in addition to the statue of the Virgin Mary and a large crucifix. Simplicity is the cave Maria will enjoy this, it is intended that the pilgrims who visit continues to appreciate and be grateful for everything which the Lord has given.
May and October is the month which is celebrated by Catholics as the month of Mary. In that month the Catholics would come to Maria Cave scattered all over the country to perform devotions and one of them is Maria Tritis cave.
