Leather handicraft is one of the main home industry sectors in the community, particularly in the Yogyakarta tourist attractions area. Produced handicrafts made up of various materials and one of them is made from buffalo skin. It is basic materials leather, the inlaid decoration is created art that makes creative media work. The handicraft products result is a leather puppet, leather fan, leather wall hangings, miniature puppet show, calligraphy skin, bookmarks, lampshade, picture frames, and many more.
The craft shadow plays are combined between art and history. This is due to make shadow puppets required willingness and high ability to learn, tenacity, and a sense of love for high culture. The shadow puppet is one of the Indonesian heritage ancestors, especially in Yogyakarta. That is expected to be an example of the legacy that must be preserved and maintained to continue the existence of shadow puppets as the identity of Yogyakarta.

There are many craftsmen inlaid leather puppets known as Tatah Sungging in Karangasem village of Bantul. Nearly 80% of people in that village have profession as leather craftsmen with fully Javanese culture knowledge and it is created from buffalo's leather.
