Pekalen river is located in Ranu Gedang village, Tiris district, 25 km from Probolinggo town, East Java province. It called Ranu Gedang because there are many banana trees which means in the Javanese language is Gedang. The river can be waded would split the water river flows and exotic waterfalls.
According to the local people, Probolinggo has charmed King Hayam Wuruk and Gajah Mada of Majapahit kingdom. Both were fascinated by the natural beauty of Probolinggo and linger in the area. The possible name ‘Probolinggo' comes from the word 'Prabu Linggih' which later amended text to the word 'Probolinggo'.
